Services

I have the skills and experience to undertake historical research for a wide range of applications, with particular expertise in histories for heritage management, place-making and historical storytelling. My histories are thoroughly researched and written in an engaging, illustrated and fully referenced format. They are used in reports, heritage reviews, studies, apps, websites, print and other media. There is a strong focus on the built environment, and coupled with the stories of the people connected with a place, these histories come fully alive.

Histories for Heritage Reports

I prepare site-specific historical summaries for inclusion in heritage reports. Heritage specialists and architects use my histories to make decisions about future development strategies for heritage sites. I analyse both the historical records and the architecture and built fabric of a place to understand what elements are significant. Based on this in-depth knowledge, change can be designed in a way that retains the significance of a place.

Histories for Archaeology

With often little fabric or architecture left, researching and writing for archaeological reports requires specific skills and experience. I access early historical records such as maps, assessment and rates books, directories, land title information, images and drawings to help archaeologists distinguish between significant development phases, assess the potential for archaeologically significant remains and make sense of finds uncovered during excavation.

Content for Interpretation

I prepare historical content for place-making, interpretive strategies and interpretive media. Storytelling is an integral part of any historical work, and I am experienced in providing engaging content for various interpretive applications, including digital and print media.

Land Title Research

I am an expert in conducting land title searches to trace a place's ownership history back to the first grant. These searches are usually accompanied by historical research to cross-reference and understand significant historical ownership phases. Rather than presenting the search results as a list of relevant names, I provide concise historical summaries that help to make sense of it all.

House and Business Histories

I offer historical research services for individuals or companies who would like to know more about the history of their house, business or organisation. Knowing the history of your house can provide a sense of place and belonging, and it is an essential step for those planning to undertake alterations or conservation works. Businesses and organisations can greatly benefit from a written history by using it in their marketing and promotional materials.
